The Greek Federation of Spirits Producers is a private law entity, namely a non-profit organization. It was founded in 1995 following the division of the activities of the historic Federation of Greek Wine and Spirits Industries (abbreviated to SEVOP from 1949 onwards) into two (2) segments: Wine Industry on one hand and Spirits Industry on the other.
In its capacity as a body representing purely spirits producers, it aspired to meet the increased needs of the Greek Spirits Industry and safeguard its interests both in Greece and throughout the globe, given the trend towards the import of other alcoholic beverages and their prevalence among consumers.
The Federation’s objectives consist, among other things, in the following:
- Assisting and developing the production and marketing of Greek beverages of vitivinicultural origin (grape marc spirits, wine spirits, raisin spirits and other agricultural products), Ouzo, as well as other alcoholic beverages by means of research and technological advancement, committed to achieving the highest quality among the industry’s products.
- Safeguarding and fostering the industry's interests in terms of its interaction with the Greek State, the EU authorities and international organizations.
- Promoting the industry's products, both in the domestic and foreign markets, by means of devising and monitoring a national policy on spirits.\
- Collaborating with EU and international organizations engaging in activity in the field of spirit drinks and other relevant sectors, ultimately aiming at fostering the interests of Greek products.
The Federation comprises the most widely recognized companies in the industry, both private companies and cooperatives, producing brands of established quality and magnitude.
Its members market 76% of bottled beverages in Greece and export 75% of Greek exported beverages.
