According to the most recent data of Eurostat (June 2025) processed by the Greek Federation of Spirits Producers, Greece remains one of the most expensive countries in the European Union in terms of retail price levels of alcoholic beverages (spirits, beer, wine) in 2024.
In the Table and Map below, the comparative results for EU countries are shown in detail.

How alcohol prices vary across the EU in 2024
In 2024, the retail price levels of alcoholic beverages in Europe vary significantly between countries. The results of the survey are expressed in price indices, which provide a comparison of countries' price levels with the European Union average.
Eurostat's study compared price level indices from 36 European countries including EFTA countries and the Western Balkan countries
When price levels are compared with the EU average price level index of 100, the results show that the price of alcoholic drinks (spirits, wine and beer) was more than three and a half times as high in the most expensive country (Ireland) compared with the cheapest one (Italy).
Price dispersion was pronounced within the 36 countries, for alcoholic beverages. The highest price dispersion was found, mainly due to large differences in excise taxation across the 36 countries.
Τhe results show that the price of alcoholic drinks was the highest in Iceland (with a price level index of 285.1), followed by Norway (225.8) and Finland which had the highest price level for alcoholic beverages in the EU-27, at 110% above the EU average.
In contrast, the lowest price levels were recorded in Italy (with a price index of 83.9) and Germany (86.7) followed by Austria (89.7).
