TOPLOU MONASTERY
The sacred Monastery Panagia Akrotiriani and St. Ioannis Theologos Toplou Sitia, is situated in the north-east of Crete and is one of the oldest and most historic Monasteries in Crete through the centuries. It was built in the 14th century in the east of Sitia, towards the palm-tree forest of Vai and it is the biggest castle Monastery in the east Crete.
The monastery has always been making wine for the needs of the church for social and religious purposes, and the poor dry and windy areas around the monastery are ideal for grapevine growing.
Today, continuing the monastic experience and tradition of centuries, are cultivated indigenous and international varieties. in 350 acres of vineyards of organic farms
It has a modern winery and distillery that processes and vinifies the organic grapes of its privately owned vineyards and produces the famous organic wines and the traditional tsikoudia.

Tsikoudia of exceptional quality from the organic vineyards of the Toplou Monastery, Sitia. This traditional Cretan spirit is made from high quality fresh fermented marc. The ancient method of distillation combined with the long-standing expertise of the monks captures the aromatic and delicious characteristics of the grape. Aging in oak barrels gives it a golden hue, sophisticated aromas and refined taste. Offered as a digestive after every meal! It is served frozen.
