LAUNCH OF THE RESPONSIBILITY ALLIANCE IN GREECE The “Responsibility Alliance”
LAUNCH OF THE RESPONSIBILITY ALLIANCE IN GREECE The “Responsibility Alliance” - an alliance for responsible sale of alcohol - was launched on 28 June 2016 in Athens. It is a voluntary initiative created by the Hellenic Association of Drinks Distributors (ENEAP), the Greek Federation of Spirits Producers (SEAOP), companies and trade associations in the retail sector and the on-trade (hotels, bars, restaurants). Organisations specialised in the field of prevention and public health have also joined the Alliance, namely the National Network of Healthy Municipalities; the Center for Research and Prevention of Injuries of the University of Athens; the Hellenic Society for Social Pediatrics; the National Road Safety Institute “Panos Mylonas” and the Therapy Center for Dependent Individuals. The Alliance is supported by the Hellenic Network for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR Hellas).
The aim of the Responsibility Alliance is to deliver - together with the distribution network - training sessions, public information and awareness raising campaigns, prevention and education programs to Q
• reduce underage drinking;
• strengthen and expand marketing codes of practice;
• provide consumer information and responsible product innovation; and
• reduce drink driving.
The first step of the campaign will be to raise knowledge and awareness of consumers on low-risk drinking guidelines. Special efforts will be made to remind people that there are no “hard” or “soft” drinks and that every typical serving of an alcoholic beverage in a bar (wine, beer or spirits) contains approximately the same amount of alcohol. Therefore, it doesn’t matter what you drink but how much and how you drink.
